So confession time: I no longer drive a pickup truck. About two months ago I sold my truck and bought the XJ Cherokee discussed here:
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And then I took the extra money I got from the truck and bought this:
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So this leaves me with the conundrum, is my name now a lie?
When you add in the fact that my name causes people to reply to my comments like this I'm thinking I might:
As if driving a huge heavy crate around with shit brakes, an ancient suspension, and no traction at the rear wheels (that describe 98% of them on the road) puts you in a position to tell people they are being unsafe
Or this one:
This ENTIRE conversation can be solved .... you can't understand how he drove that fast and how reckless it was, because you drive a pick up. I don't think you know when some things go around corners they don't flip and kill you.
Try driving a car some time.
Or this one:
you can't weigh in on bumper guards, you drive a pickup truck.
That last one received quite a few recommendations too. There seems to be a lot of pickup truck hate around these parts, and people tend to assume that the only car I have ever driven is a pickup truck and frankly I'm a little tired of the hate I receive sometimes simply because of a screen name. The ironic part about the hate is that is was a little joke with myself. Before I bought the truck I had only ever had compact cars and never thought I would drive something like a truck, but then I got a job in the oilfield and BOOM truck ownership; I chose the name because it made me chuckle a little bit whenever a saw it but now it leaves me a little too open to trolls like Milky.
So here is the question opponaughts, do enough of you know me by the name that I should stick with IDRIVEAPICKUPTRUCK or am I living a lie by continuing to use it? If I change it what should it be? IUSEDTODRIVEAPICKUPTRUCK? IDRIVEANXJ? RECOVERINGPICKUPTRUCKOWNER?
Now down to thoughts on XJ ownership.
Frankly I love it. It's rough around the edges, it squeaks, it rattles, sometimes the A/C vent will pop out when I'm driving on a rough road, the wind noise on the highway is incredibly loud and the rear hatch wouldn't open for more than a month but still so far I lovelovelove it. Maybe it's just the joy of having a manual transmission again but I just enjoy driving it and have a little too much fun tossing it around bends on the dirt roads near the rigs I work on. That big lazy inline six feels like it could go forever (and it probably will) and the whole thing just puts a smile on my face when I'm driving it. I've already put about 5000 miles on it and I don't regret it at all

I'd say 'IDRIVEANXJ', but some might confuse that with the Jaguar XJ.
Maybe 'IDRIVEAJEEPXJ'?

Great looking jeep! That is such a timeless design. I say keep the name, it will be kind of ironic. How are you liking the Volvo?

God I might have to go with ITSAJEEPTHINGYOUWOULDNTUNDERSTAND if only for the irony of how much I hated seeing that on all the wranglers the idiots at my high school drove. I've always hated Wranglers because so many kids from my high school drove them and never took them off road and just drove like asshats. But now I'm warming to them, especially since they're one of the few vehicles with ground clearance you can still get with a manual transmission.

With a curb weight of just around 3,000lb, 190hp and 235lb-ft of torque it pulls a lot more than you think :D I miss my XJ badly. Good find!
If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent

I've barely driven it because I've barely been home. The nature of my job is long periods away from home and that has been especially bad recently. Initial reaction to it is that it's considerably longer than I expected and jesus christ is the manual steering heavy. It failed inspection (predictibly) but it just needs new tires and a horn. Do you think a zip tied air horn would pass inspection?

Oh yeah, it's pretty quick. I've probably got one of the lightest ones too since it's a 2-door and it's only 2wd. I also find it interesting how much taller SUVs and crossovers have gotten, I'm really not much higher up than a regular car.

Thanks buddy, I'm well on my way to owning many a different car. I'm only 24 and my car history already reads like this:
2001 Volvo S60
1990 Honda Civic
2000 BMW 323i
2011 Chevy Silverado
1985 BMW 318i
2001 Jeep Cherokee
1978 Volvo 242
I've been going progressively more Oppo for a while now but I'm hoping the two vehicles I currently have will last me a while. At some point I might have to get something newer for work which will be an interesting decision (WRX? Wrangler? Forrester? Some other manual vehicle?) But for now I'm happy, both cars fit in pretty well in Austin as well.

Zip ties? Use some JB Weld like a true professional. What part of Texas are you from? My wife and I used to live in Corpus Christi.

I "live" in Austin meaning I have a house there that I get to see from time to time. I work down closer to Corpus around Victoria or Gonzalez. I grew up in the Detroit suburbs far from Texas.
